Another Musical Instrument to Learn and Play

It’s the Industrial Engineering week in my daughter’s university and though she wants to be included in their band performance in playing guitar, beat box or keyboards she was assigned to play drums. That’s a real surprise to Gen because she has never played that kind of instrument since she started playing musical instruments. She was so busy with her preferred string instruments and in her piano playing that she really ignored the drums. 

Well the drums are for Josh anyway so it’s not really Gen’s priority. Now her section is really keen on making her play drums on their performance night that she’s forced to learn in one or two days. Wow can you beat that? Well it seems that she has no choice now and should follow their leader which prompted her to go over music friend site for some information on the required drums instrument. I told her like any Mom should be saying that she can do it and will pass with flying colors. She smiled but thinking on how she would make time for the practice because it’s their examination week these days.

Printing Store in Our Community

I’m so glad that my kids are on their holiday vacation and they will come back to schooling next Monday. It will be a relaxing break for me as I don’t have to wake up so early at dawn to cook and prepare their food for breakfast and lunch. On the other hand I feel like vacationing also but it’s only a wish as we have office work as early as the 2nd day of the coming year. Anyway school break means rest from school activities which always require numerous projects and printing requirements. 

We have our own printer but for volume of printing needs we give it to our favorite printing store where they give us good discounts on all our print orders. They also accept business cards, brochures, banners, cheap label printing, photo printing and a lot more. One good thing about the store is the proximity from our house because they’re just one block away from us just like neighbors. The owner of the store has become friends with my hubby and often he gives us lesser price than others that’s why we always go to him whenever my two big girls needs volume of print jobs done.

Kids' Sunday School Activities - Nativity Stick

My little boy is very busy with his school projects and sometimes he brings it home to finish.  Hard as it seems those activities tends to harness their imaginary and artistic skills which is good for primary students like Josh.  He's always thinking of something nice to draw and when he draws I see his eyes twinkling with excitement with the ideas that he's creating.  He has really improved a lot from the 3-year old little boy who can't draw an apple on his first day of school.  

He started schooling with a very intellectual and bright mind knowing all the alphabets at 3 and can read short words at the first day of schooling but his hands are weak in drawing. Seeing him now finishing an artistic pencil drawing of houses and nature themes in his sketch pad made me so thankful that God has helped him a lot. He wanted to be an architect someday and as early as now I'm beginning to see my future Architect.

This picture has caught his attention and thought that this might be a good craft activity for our Sunday school activity, educational and just right for the coming holiday season.  Josh is helping me out in preparing lessons and craft activities for Sunday because I'm the scheduled teacher for this week.  He's always looking forward for the times that I'll be their teacher.

Grade 3 School Retreat

My little boy was so happy when he returned from their school retreat. Grade 3 pupils had their 4-hour school retreat today and he brought home some prizes. He was so excited when he reached home before lunch time. He told us that their team won two of the retreat games played by them. They’ve won first place in poster making and another on answering questions. He showed me the mechanical pencil and correction paper prizes for them. He actually didn’t mind if there are prizes or none because the games itself made him happy. He told me that he’s very glad he’s well now because if not he’ll never be as happy as he is today.

Don’t Want to Miss School Activities

LJCS Grade 3 students had their retreat today. I have to get early even when we had few sleep the night before. Josh had severe stomach pain and we thought he’d never make it in their retreat today. We were actually telling him that he’ll never be able to attend the retreat but he firmly told us that it’s not allowable to miss the retreat. I laughed at his serious talk because I find it hard to associate his decision with a 9-year old boy. At the height of his pain he still didn’t want to miss any school activity. Hope he’ll stay the same even when grows up. As early as now I can see a strong personality and high regards in education in my little boy.

My Son’s Costume in School Program

I attended the school activities in my little boy’s school and asked my office that I would take a leave so I can assist my son. He’s one of the participants in the program, one of the representatives in grade 3 level. They’re dressed in white shorts and green shirt representing the color of vegetables and with a hat decorated with different kinds of fruits. At the front of their shirt they were instructed to have picture of foods pinned to represent nutrition month. We were looking for a way to have it pinned securely because Josh is so active that I feared it might fall down. 

Well the thought of having lapel pins entered my mind but DH has already pinned the picture with a safety pin. Some has put tape around the picture but as minutes pass by the pictures are hanging with loose tapes. It’s a good decision to use pins whether it’s a safety pin, lapel or any other pin because it secures the picture to the shirt. The program went well and I should say I enjoyed the presentation of young boys and girls. It also brought back memories of my two young teens when they were still in grade school.

Cash Gift and Medal for Gen!

She did it again! Gen received a cash gift and medal last Thursday on TUMCS Recognition Day for Best in Music Education. She’s also the consistent top#1 of her class so she’ll be in the pilot class next school year. She was not included in the selection of students for pilot class when she first entered the school unlike her elder sister who was chosen on her first year of schooling there.

Anyway I knew then that God has a purpose for that so I never made a big thing out of it. We’re happy enough that she was also given a scholarship until she graduates from the school. They’re 10 who were chosen and the amount given each year will be a lot of assistance to them.

Integration for Incoming Students

My daughters have celebrated their integration day in school where freshmen were introduced and welcomed by their school mates. Each section will be divided into two and will be combined with other students of senior years so they would know some other students beside their classmates. It’s also aimed at making the students of the school be familiar and friends with other class and elder students. It was actually an exciting day for them where the three senior years from second year to fourth year will bring their food for the freshmen that they would welcome in their room. There will be competitions to deal with, awards to vie for, and activities to thrill them and finally a surprise for the incoming students. 

Before the integration day they gave black shirts to their teachers for t-shirt printing where the logo designs would be on their shirt something like the blac label clothing for men where there are logo design prints also on the shirt being sold. Anyway the result of the printed shirt was cute and it looks good on my daughter. The other years wore specific color for each year level so they would distinguish easily the year level of the student just by their shirt. Memories of His Preparatory School Days

As early as now I’ve been hearing about preparation for Halloween costume party and Halloween party invitations. I heard from one of the kindergarten student in one of the schools near our house. It’s actually one of the school activities they have in school and they celebrate it with the kids in different costumes of super heroes, robots, Dracula, ghost and other horror characters.

I remember my own little boy in Robin and Spiderman costume when he was still in preparatory school. I can’t forget how excited he was with his costume and the activities they do. They have program with games, contest for the best costumes, giving of candies and other fun-filled activities. Now that he’s in grade school he no longer experiences such things but kept the memories in his photo book.

 This shot was taken months back during one of the programs in my son's school.  They were celebrating  health week and each grade level presented their unique poem, songs, dances and drama with the theme focused on health and nutrition.  We also had our share on our own as all parent officers prepared healthy foods to feed to all students of Little Jewels Christian School.  Notice the costumes of the kids here representing vegetables.  They danced to represent the value of eating vegetable with the song 'Makulay ang Buhay sa Sinabawang Gulay....' (life is colorful with soupy vegetables).

Tired from School Activities

It’s a long weekend and I spent this weekend thinking of delicious recipe for my family as they’re all here since yesterday. Yesterday was the celebration of 25th anniversary of EDSA revolution and schools have no classes. It’s also a good break as the little boy was tired from their family day and field demo in school. Before the presentation they had series of rehearsals so I’m glad for the break. Both the little boy and I were tired and we slept past 6am the next day. 

We always wake up before 5am but yesterday we really took advantage of the holiday. How I wish we have those hot tub I saw online so we can use it when we want to relax our tired bodies. I’ve seen the hot tub spa covers and I agree that it’s really a must to get durable cover for the hot tub. If only I have it I would take good care and buy the best covers to protect it. Hmm maybe I can save for it.

Tired from Competition

Tired and sleepy, that’s what I’m feeling at this moment because I accompanied Gen in her EPP competition in Karangalan District. The skills joined by their school are flower arrangement, fabric painting and basic encoding skills. Gen was the representative for basic encoding skills and she won the first place so we went shopping and played in Tom’s World before we went home. It’s her first time to make to first place and she was so happy. She’ll represent the school next week for inter-town competition. I’ll make a full story on this and post pictures when I have time.

Ruth's TUCMS Retreat

These are some of the shots in Ruth’s school retreat in UM’s retreat center in Tikling, Taytay Rizal. We came to fetch her in the evening around 530pm 2 hours before the end of their activities. It was dark already when they finished all that was in the program. Anyway I’ve taken some pics of the place while waiting for her and we’ve talked to the pastor whose caring for the retreat place. It was very relaxing and peaceful there outside while the retreat has some fun-filled voice.

Josh' First Ever Retreat in LJ

These are some of the pics that I've managed to capture while the little boy and his cousin Matt were having their retreat.  They had it in the school ground as they're too young to do it elsewhere.  It's safer to do it inside the school.  They have prepared many activities including bible quiz and other christian living exercises.  They enjoyed the day that much you can see it in their faces here.  See the third pic here and you can tell that Josh love this first and simple retreat he has experienced in his life.  More to come in the coming months and years.

Gen's Inter-School Chess Competition

This is my daughter Gen's favorite sports and which she joined an inter-school competition in CES.  They were four who competed for the school and it took them 3 days.  I warned her that it may affect her standing in the class but how could I say no to her :-) she knows how to make me agree to what she wants.  Anyway she's good at it though she's not the champion type as of now, maybe in the next coming years.  She had 3 wins and two loses and that's good enough for me.  Her other teammates were not that lucky except for one who won 4 times.

Btw my little boy learned chess at 6 years old with his Ate Gen's supervision.  It's one of the games that we're fond of playing at home.

Little Boy's First Participation

Here are my son Joshua and nephew Matthew in their participation in the Nutrition Month program held in Little Jewels last July 30.  It's their first in their grade school.  I attended to these two boys because  Matt's  parents (my brother and SIL) went to Mindoro that day. These 9 kids were chosen from different sections and these cousins Josh & Matt volunteered to participate in the program.  I laughed when I heard it from Josh that when their teacher asked who can memorize lines easily they raised their hands lol! 

True to their words they easily memorized the lines in one day and never buckled a bit on the program.  Josh was the smallest of them all but he has the clearest and loudest voice.  His voice should make up for his height don't you think?

TUMCS Integration 2010

This is a late post but then again I just want to share my young freshman's integration experience.  Yearly they held Integration program/activities as a sort of introducing the newly entered freshmen in the campus each section will be divide into two and combined to higher years.  It's one way of acquainting all 400 students of Taytay United Methodist Christian School so they will have camaderie when they joined the subject clubs.  They brought food the whole class, just simple snacks like donuts, ensaymada etc.

They've performed the activities prepared by their seniors, activities were all meant for orientation, acquaintance and pure fun welcome for the freshmen. Later they all met at the gym and surprises were there for them again.  Ruth told me that she sensed something fishy and stayed behind. Those who stayed at the middle were caught in the pouring out of different colored liquid on their bodies.  Ruth recalled that they were advised to bring extra clothes lol! Ruth arrived home chattering their fun day endlessly.

Choosing Costumes

As early as now some parents are preparing their smal kids for the trick or treat occasion. I’m wondering why because my little boy usually prepares for that activity before the end of October. We don’t go to the mall to celebrate the activity and we just use his costume for the costume party in his preparatory school. Now that he’s in grade one level I wonder if he’s going to need kids halloween costumes in his new school.

Anyway he has his Robin and Spiderman costumes in his closet but I think he will not use it in school again because he’s using it at home when playing super heroes game. I’ve seen him yesterday looking at Harry Potter’s costume and bookmarked the site together with Ironman costume. Maybe he’s choosing between the two and contemplating when he would ask me.

Enjoying the Freshmen Activities

I’m online most of the times during the day so I had a chance to look at the difference of phentermine compared to other diet products. This week I had a hard time being online for continuous hours because I had to round up my kids in their respective school. I just scheduled twice or thrice a week for my visit to my little boy and my second daughter. The eldest is already in high school and parents are not allowed to go there without specific concerns. Anyway she’s old enough to handle herself and she’s enjoying her time at the school being a freshman. The school has plenty of enjoyable and learning experience for the new students in school and it brings out the best of my young lady.

Advance Classes

I was late in fetching Ruth from her school because I have to check the cheap car insurance for my brother’s pickup car. He needs to have some discounts because he’s saving his money for his four schooling children. His eldest will enter college and he’ll be studying in Mapua where a different kind of semestral period is being practiced. Well they have four semesters in a year and my nephew will be spending a lot in a year so my brother is getting wiser in his finances.

Anyway I find Ruth resting under the tree and wasn’t in any way bored. She smiled when she saw me and I ran over her lessons. The past two weeks was a refresher course for them but I learned from her that next week they will start having advance classes in English and Algebra. That’s what I’m aiming for when I enrolled her. I wanted her to spend some of her summer vacation off the cable TV and internet. Kids tend to forget some of the past lessons during summer vacation so summer classes proved to be a better way of refreshing the child’s intellect. That way she’ll be ready for her first year in high school with confidence.

She loves the attention given to her by the class and her teacher because she’s the top scorer most of the times. She promised me that she’ll be more attentive, perseverant and active this coming school year. I trust and believe her and I pray that God will always guide her in all her activities.
