3 Tips for Taking Care of Your Aging Parents

Are your parents getting older? Are you starting to feel responsible for their well-being in ways that you didn't when you were younger? It happens to everyone eventually, but the good news is that you don't have to struggle through it without knowing what to do. Here are three tips for taking care of your parents as they become senior citizens.

1. Make Modifications to Their Home

Don't let your parents slip and fall. Install hand rails for stairs, steps, bathtubs and front porches; put grips on the walls to help them navigate steep hallways; level the floor so that they don't stumble over inclined ground. You might also want to look into things like automated lights that will flicker on when they detect noise or movement. You can keep your parents safe and alert even if they're losing mobility.

2. Hire Some Help

This is a nice compromise if your parents don't want to move into a nursing home but aren't quite able to function by themselves. Elder care assistance comes in many forms, including home health aides, and they can help your parents with things like cleaning, bathing, taking their prescriptions and getting to their appointments on time. Your parents will remain independent while also getting a helping hand when they need it the most.

3. Spend More Time With Them

This might sound like a no-brainer, but most parents would prefer face-time with their children over a dozen specialized hand rails. Try to make some time in your schedule for them. Senior citizens are prone to loneliness, but studies have shown that you can boost their health, mood and even brain function by socializing with them. All you have to do is pick up the phone and ask your mom if she wants to grab lunch.

These are just a few things to keep in mind as your parents get older and start relying on you for help. If you want to pay them back for all of your good childhood memories, take care of them now. They need you.

The ultimate flying with baby checklist

When it comes to flying with your baby, it is never an easy thing to plan.  Parents will soon realise that even heading out for a short period of time with a little one in tow becomes somewhat of a challenge.

So, imagine how tricky it might be if you are flying somewhere with them? That said, it is important that you don’t focus only on the difficulties, else you may never be brave enough to book those flight tickets.

It is important that you consider the airline that you fly with as some are known for having a child friendly approach, whilst some are not focused on family flyers. You should also consider the things that you are going to need to pack for the flight itself, as well as the things that you need to pack once you reach your destination.

Don’t forget the pacifier as well as a change of clothes for them, also, never ever forget to pack the diapers, else things might get messy. Travel can be rough on your luggage so consider getting a cheap stroller just for flying. That way you won’t be too stressed out about the wear and tear on your expensive stroller when you fly.

End of the Kids’ Vacation

Summer has passed and now rainy season is taking over the hot and humid temperature of the year. With the coming of the rain the kids’ school break has come to an end as well. My own son and daughters have mixed emotions about the end of their vacation and the coming school year. They’re sad that rest days are over and they will wake up very early again but excited as well because they’ll get to see their school friends again after more than two months.

The kids only have memories now of their happy school break when they’re so excited about the beginner guitar available at Musicians Friend at the start of their vacation. They want it so badly that they thought of taking a summer job to save for a new guitar. Kids are so fond of musical instruments that they want to work to be able to buy the instrument they love so much.

Relaxing Debut Celebration

With lots of preparation and plans for my daughter’s debut we finally had it. We’re all happy that everything went as planned. My debutant’s gown is simple yet elegant in blue shimmering color and Gen was like a princess as she walked down the aisle to her mini stage. My baby daughter suddenly turned to a young lady and she’s really beautiful and very chic. Not yet a woman but not a young girl anymore. We did everything to make the venue looked beautiful especially the stage which compliments her gown in silver, blue and white hues. The decors were as simple as the debutant but also class and elegant in its own style.

We also made it sure that we had sumptous food with the help of our best caterer, my husband’s good friends Joel and Joy. The AVP were entertaining showing my daughter’s pictures from baby to toddler to young girl stage up to teenage years. The sound system went well and even though one of Gen’s friends suggested some http://www.musiciansfriend.com/accessories/tnr-products-little-booty-shakers for the drum sets we didn’t pushed through with having the instrument. For my daughter’s debut we just wanted a simple and cozy celebration.

We’re grateful that we had the best celebration with chosen friends, relatives and classmates of my dear daughter who made her happy by their songs, messages and wishes. It was really a relaxing celebration and we didn’t feel any stress or pressure on the occasion. We just enjoyed every minute of the program and we’re thankful that Gen felt so happy with her birthday.

Josh’ Talents and Skills

School is nearing the end of the first quarter and I’m wondering how my boy will be ranked. His adviser has some good remarks on him being always attentive and fast in understanding their lessons. He’s the leader in some of his subjects and he doesn’t have any problems on his assignments and projects. I’m just not comfortable with him being so cool and relaxed as he’s also like that last year when he didn’t qualify in the honor roll. Anyway competition is really tough now as they’re all chosen and ranked according to their grades and I assume they’re all outstanding in their former years.

We actually don’t pressure him to be in the top 5 but we always remind him to maintain his grade so he will not fall under the stratified sections, as of now he’s in the first stratified section which is the cream or pilot section after the Science class. We just enrolled him in the public school because it’s more competitive and my husband will be teaching there too hopefully next year. It’s better if Josh will be in the same school as his Dad so he can be well monitored and taken care of. He’s turning 13 next month but he’s still such a young boy in some of his ways.

One thing I like about him is his very smart moves and thinking being so wizard-like when it comes to computers especially in codes and in some mobile software. He just learns it all by himself, always researching about things and absorbs data so fast you will wonder if he’s really 12 only. He’s also crazy about drawing cartoon images and playing musical instruments. His favorite instrument is keyboards and told me about kurzweil keyboards at wwbw.com which he fancies. My little boy turned bigger boy is growing up very skilled, talented and interested in everything that challenges him including writing journals. Now I’m taking extra effort in teaching and guiding him on whatever he wants to learn and things he puts his mind on so he can be the best of what he wants to be in the future.

Looking Forward to Family Vacation

The long holiday is over and it will two months more before the next holiday which will fall on weekends. Anyway since the ‘ber’ months have already started we’re getting excited for our December church family fellowship and vacation in the coolest place in the country. As early as now we’re planning our trip, fellowship schedules, places to visit, restaurants to eat and places to shop for our souvenirs and pasalubong.

We will also look for authentic musical instruments made of specialized and quality woodcraft like we’ve seen at guitarscenter online. My kids love playing music to instruments of their preference and every place we go we look for some good music products of the place. Guitars are known to play excellently depending on the make and good choice of materials as advised to us by one of my kids’ music instructor especially the string instruments.

Special Thoughts on Father's Day

It’s only three days left and another special day is coming up to celebrate and remember someone in the family who gave his best to protect, guide and love all of us. I’m talking about Father’s Day, the day that we give our special wishes and thanks to the man that serve not just our strong wall but a shoulder to lean on when things get tough. My own father died several years ago but he left us enough sweet memories of his love to live us by every time we need and miss him. Now my celebration extends to the father of my kids who loves us dearly and gives his never ending guidance and protection.

He lived up to his promise of love to me as a husband and still giving more as a father to our 3 children. We can never ask for a better husband and father because God has given us the best. Well now we are thinking of a special gift for him on such special occasion and I have plenty of gift ideas like nice accessories, tool kits for the car, maybe some unique gift like magnetic bracelet for men or things that he can use for his practice teaching session. I’m hoping that we can decide now what to give for the special man in our life while thinking about what to cook on Father’s Day. I know our eldest kid has planned it two weeks ago and she’s still privy about it.

Family, Summer and Music

The weather suddenly changed too fast last weekend and most people in the city regret the change as they want the colder temperature which they usually get when they visit Baguio. Well for me I welcomed the change because I got a stomach coldness last week and every time I was exposed to direct air conditioner my stomach crumbles. It was a bad week for me and I felt different this week because I can eat anything without fear of having stomach pain.

Anyway I can feel the coming of summer with the breeze of air slowly becoming hotter, maybe not that hot this week but it will before the end of the month. Well for me summer is a happy season as it bonds the family. During summer we do a lot of family activies and short travels. It's also the times of sports fest, summer class and musical bonding with the kids.

I can say that summer is a great time for learning new craft and other musical instruments or perfecting musical pieces. I will not be surprised if the sales on these instruments increases because lots of kids prefer to buy on this season where they can really have time to study and hone their skills. I also prefer to look for new accessories, nstruments on those dates like squier vintage modified strat at guitar center and many others. For people who plays guitar it's a great help to find everything you need.

Planning for Next Family and Church Vacation

After the nice vacation of the whole church in the coolest place in the country we all want to plan again for next year’s activities. We do this kind of vacation every two years to save enough but now we’re thinking if we can do it again next year or next summer. The weather, the fresh environment, good food and nice sharing at the park has made our vacation fulfilling that we all want to go back and do it again next December. We’re planning to have more time on bible study and word sharing as the place is so perfect for that. If we can bring some musical instruments and accessories we plan on having small fellowship service.

Now we’re listing all musical instruments and accessories we have at the church and maybe buy some replacement for the old ones. I would love to buy some Squier Bullet Stratocasters at Musicians Friend if I have enough funds but for now we’ll buy at our present suppliers where we can get discounts also. For some of the instruments that needs little repairs only we will only send them to our technician who always fixes the instruments for us. On first Sunday of the coming year we’ll plan our church activities as early as possible to be able to save enough for all of our incoming expenses.

Family Bonding Vacation

The family is so busy with the things we used in our recent vacation in Baguio. Since I still have to go to office the kids helped DH in arranging things and the laundry as well. They still missed the cold weather in Baguio and the food that we ate there like strawberry taho, strawberry ice cream, jam, peanut brittle, lengua de gato and a lot more. For the adults we greatly missed the freshness of the fruits and vegetables which we bought in the farm. The price is so low that you would want to take bunches of the crispy vegetables home but we didn’t bring any car so we passed the thought.

One thing that we missed up there is the guitar and piano because when we rest at night we love to hear some of the sounds from my daughter’s instruments because it serves as a lullaby to us. It’s not the beautiful alfred basic piano at Musicians Friend but it has served us for several years already. It has also been an instrument for my daughter’s learning and we love it dearly. We should have brought at least one musical instrument for our night bonding but anyway we enjoyed our vacation fully even without it.

Beautifying Our Home on Mom’s Birthday

When we had our kitchen and dining area renovated last summer we also replaced our seat covers for the two sala sets that we have. It’s also the month of my Mom’s 80th birthday so my sister and I exerted all efforts to please her with regards to home decorating and housekeeping. She was delighted when the new custom-made sofa cover arrived at the house together with the new curtains and especially-designed velvet throw pillows which accentuate the living room.

Even if Mom’s birthday was celebrated somewhere else we still made our house as presentable as ever for her visitors and some of our relatives who were not able to come with us on buffet restaurant. My siblings and I agreed on having it somewhere else because I didn’t want to cook for many people then. We also wanted to just relax, dine and enjoy our Mom on her 80th birthday.

Different Flooring Design on the Attic

After careful study my brother started another renovation on his house. He was readying for the rainy season and raised his flooring with additional two feet. It was a big decision because his tile flooring is still beautiful and of high quality but he was doing it to protect their house from floods. He didn’t want another occurrence of such kind again and after the sun showed in full shining glory the renovation started. Since he’s an Engineer it’s easy for him to schedule home improvement as he has a steady group of workers who can do the project immediately.

When I asked him about the floor repairs he told me that they’re already in the finishing stage and actually looking for high quality stylish tiles to match the walls of his house. His house is a good pattern model for any client that will visit him. He has personally designed it himself and takes pride in looking into interior design as well. When he built the attic he preferred hardwood stairs and flooring for a change because the attic is his office and recreation area. It’s a complete turnaround from his ground and second floor because he really aimed at the quality and durability of hardwood flooring. He thought that it would more elegant and natural. It also gives an accent to his office furniture leaving a rich and charming look.

When you also want a look that’s different from the emerging modern innovative look you can look back at the old times and use hardwood flooring from Guhde Flooring America where you can choose from wide assortment of elegant hardwood floors that will surely enhance any room that you choose to install. It can also fit your specific requirements as they’re customizable. It can refinish to fit it your desired finished product or to enhance makeovers. With these products you will be satisfied with the looks and can vouch for quality and durability as well.

Choosing the Right Flooring for Your Home

The interior beauty of your home depends on how you choose your accessories, paints, decors, furniture and your flooring. In the past we had a hard time giving our house a definition because we only installed a simple flooring which at the occurrence of flood give up easily. The quality of the floor can be tested through time and season. When the elements of water, fire, dust and other factors entered your home some changes can occur including the slowly fading and breakage of your flooring.

Several months back we invested on a good vinyl flooring to finally add a cool ambience in the house. We’ve chosen a cool green color for our flooring and decided on a good vinyl tile brand so it would last for a longer period of time. I can say that it’s worth all the effort and money that we have spent on the floor renovation. My brother accompanied us to his favorite supplier of tiles and helped us look for the best that we can afford.

Well if you’re also planning to change the aura of your home you can visit Flooring America at http://www.cortersflooringwilliamsport.com for a complete line of flooring for your house. They offer largest selection for whatever you want, may it be carpet, hardwood ,ceramic tile, vinyl flooring, laminate, karastan carpet and rugs. With their varied line of products you can decide if you want a carpet for luxury and comfort feeling or the hardwood floor for natural beauty and warmth or any of the flooring you want. All their products are professionally installed and guaranteed so you’ll feel safe that you’ll be getting the right product with the right services.

Stylish Hardwood Flooring

I’ve always wanted a homey atmosphere in every place I visit that’s why I loved it when I saw a grill restaurant with a nature theme on their place. They’ve got some nipa hut style roofs, comfortable rustic furniture and lovely hardwood flooring. Actually it’s the floor that did the most catching effect in the theme because it looks like the flooring of some century-old Spanish houses in the past. Our home had a Spanish-like design in the past generation before my Dad renovated it to a modern style home when we were kids.

We used to play on our old wooden floors that don’t seem to move even if we put heavy furniture on top of them. I should say that most houses those days look like they’re going to last a lifetime because of the kind of wood they use on walls and floors. Now with the emergence of modern furniture and beautiful floor tiles it’s a respite to see beautiful wooden floors again. You can search, browse and pay for it online also.

To learn more about available products  on unique and stylish hardwood flooring you can always visit Emerson Carpet One Floor and Home and choose the right flooring for your home. They carry name-brand hardwood flooring that can fit any style of home. They can always find the right style, make and color shades for your kind of home. You can get that sophisticated look without hurting your budget. They’ve got great deals and coupons and warranty their products for 50 years.

Relaxing Weekend with Family

It’s weekend again and we really looks forward to a day that we’re all together in the house free from school assignments and from work. This is the day when kids are allowed to use the computer and play games which they can’t do on school weekdays. It’s also the time that we watch movies on cable television together leisurely enjoying the whole day of school and work vacation. It would much fun if I should get one or two of those kids bean bags I saw online where my kids would be place anywhere in our living room. I just love those new styles I searched with cars and sports design all over the bean bags. I myself could relax in one of those seats and probably enjoy watching television shows more.

Enjoying Rainy Days

Rainy days are here again and though it’s sometimes inconvenient to go to office or school with umbrellas on your head I still welcome the cold weather brought about by rains. I love summer especially going to the beach and outdoor activities but I certainly hate the scorching heat making me sweat when I go outside. It’s also risky on health when you go outside to a very hot weather from an office with high air conditioning. Every season has its own pros and cons and we have to prepare ourselves for whatever the season brings whether it’s hot, cold, dry or rainy season. What I love about rainy days are those moments when the whole family gathers together in front of some nice movies or shows bonding themselves for a day when no one would want to go outside.

I love cooking yummy meals when it’s raining and it seems the whole family loves to eat more when it’s cold and drizzly outside. It’s even more lovely when you have gel fireplace where you can relax in front of it and will not worry about replacing the logs when it’s burned already. I just heard of this kind of fireplace and amazed at it because you only have to use lifelike logs and gel fuel and you can enjoy the warm atmosphere without the hassles of installation, chopping wood and lighting the logs. This way you can really enjoy rainy days.

Kids’ Sweet Treats

The kids are asking me about our Father’s Day celebration and I laughed at them because they’re the ones who are very excited about the occasion and you know why? Because I have collection of vouchers and gift cheques on food stores usually cakes and pizzas and they want to claim them all. Last week we had two boxes of Cellos Doughnuts and they enjoyed every bit of it. I can say that it has the quality of expensive doughnuts and love their presentation and the looks.

Anyway we’re thinking of nice gift for their daddy and some foods for the occasion say a treat like Sharis Berries as the husband has sweet tooth and he’ll surely love the taste. Just wondering if he wants it dark or white as I would want dark one. We all love berries and if dipped in choco and other goodies it would so yummy. Celebrating Father’s special day would be sweeter with this kind of treat. Nice gift for Father’s Day don’t you think?
