Three Reasons to Learn a Musical Instrument

Going to work, taking care of family obligations, and maintaining a social life can mean that day-to-day life may become very busy for many individuals. It may sometimes feel like there simply isn’t enough time to learn new hobbies or participate in activities outside of work and family commitments. Regardless of how hectic life can get, it’s important to set aside some time to be creative and have a bit of fun! One way to be creative, have fun, and learn at the same time is to pick up a musical instrument. There are many benefits to learning a new instrument, and here are three reasons why it may be a great idea to start playing one.

1. Reduce Stress

Taking time to study an instrument may help to reduce stress. Stress is known to be very unhealthy for the body, and reducing it may help maximize an individual’s overall well-being. Playing music can be relaxing, and it may be beneficial to set aside approximately 15-30 minutes per day to focus on becoming familiar with an instrument. The time used to practice the guitar or piano, for example, can also be thought of as time being spent as an investment towards achieving and maintaining good health.

2. Make New Friends

The field of arts, music, and entertainment is filled with incredible and interesting men and women all over the world. One visit to a music store to purchase an instrument – such as the piano store Boston, for instance – could also be an opportunity to meet new friends.

3. Discover New Interests and Talents

Picking up a new instrument may provide the opportunity to discover new interests and talents. There are lots of instruments to choose from, and there are many avenues to explore in the field of music. Playing music may even spark a new career in the music industry. The joy derived from making music creates endless possibilities!

Josh’ Talents and Skills

School is nearing the end of the first quarter and I’m wondering how my boy will be ranked. His adviser has some good remarks on him being always attentive and fast in understanding their lessons. He’s the leader in some of his subjects and he doesn’t have any problems on his assignments and projects. I’m just not comfortable with him being so cool and relaxed as he’s also like that last year when he didn’t qualify in the honor roll. Anyway competition is really tough now as they’re all chosen and ranked according to their grades and I assume they’re all outstanding in their former years.

We actually don’t pressure him to be in the top 5 but we always remind him to maintain his grade so he will not fall under the stratified sections, as of now he’s in the first stratified section which is the cream or pilot section after the Science class. We just enrolled him in the public school because it’s more competitive and my husband will be teaching there too hopefully next year. It’s better if Josh will be in the same school as his Dad so he can be well monitored and taken care of. He’s turning 13 next month but he’s still such a young boy in some of his ways.

One thing I like about him is his very smart moves and thinking being so wizard-like when it comes to computers especially in codes and in some mobile software. He just learns it all by himself, always researching about things and absorbs data so fast you will wonder if he’s really 12 only. He’s also crazy about drawing cartoon images and playing musical instruments. His favorite instrument is keyboards and told me about kurzweil keyboards at wwbw.com which he fancies. My little boy turned bigger boy is growing up very skilled, talented and interested in everything that challenges him including writing journals. Now I’m taking extra effort in teaching and guiding him on whatever he wants to learn and things he puts his mind on so he can be the best of what he wants to be in the future.

Music Talents from My Grandfather’s Genes

It will be another week and my kids will be free again to do what they want as it will be their break from school. Summer vacation is always a welcoming thought for them as we get to go around places, take the time to go swimming or just visit our hometown in Laguna. Even when at home we make the most of our time together free from school activities and just enjoying quality time with the family.

Just the other day Gen told me that she wants to learn how to play violin. She didn’t talk about enrolling in some school or workshop studio as she will try to learn it by herself. Well she’s a natural with music and I know she’ll be fine with learning violin just as she is in playing guitar and cleaning guitar strings. Except for the two months she studied basic keyboard lesson she didn’t attended any paid lesson in playing musical instruments but she did very well in her pieces. Maybe it’s the genes from my Mom’s father that’s working on her and also a gift from God and I always tell them that in time they will use their talents in our church.
