4 Personal Security Measures To Help You Stay Safe

You want to feel safe no matter where you are. While you may find this increasingly difficult, there are some very basic steps you can take to help improve your security whether you are at home, at work, or out around town.

Electronic Stun Devices

There are myriad choices when it comes to electronic personal security devices. Whether you opt for a stun gun or Taser device may depend on the regulations where you live. Stun guns require you to let your attacker get close enough for physical contact before you can use them, whereas a Taser can be fired up to 15 feet. Either should deliver enough of a shock to momentarily disable your attacker and let you either make your way to a safer location or attract help. Make sure to check the battery status of your stun gun if you are using a rechargeable device.

Firearms

Consider learning how to safely handle a firearm to defend yourself. Ranges can offer a great place to learn what could be a lifesaving skill. You don't have to stick with stock options either. Custom handguns can ensure that your firearm is perfectly suited to your intended purpose. Home defense guns are an option if you don't want to carry a handgun.

Pepper Spray

Pepper spray or Mace can be used at a small distance to disable an attacking human or animal. It works by releasing capsaicin into the air, which causes irritation to the eyes and nose, and may be a good option if you want to protect yourself from aggressive dogs or wildlife. Canisters do expire, so check the date before you rely on it for protection.

Smart Home Devices

That cool doorbell you just installed does more than alert you to solicitors. it can also let you know who has been at your house when you aren't there. This can be a big deterrent to potential package and mail thieves. Plus, knowing you can call out to your home assistant to dial the police may be faster in an emergency than actually finding your phone and dialing it yourself.
