Learning To Fight Fires

In order to become a firefighter, there are certain training courses that need to be taken. After becoming a firefighter, you will likely need to take training courses in order to maintain your certification. One of the things that you will have to do involves live fire training. You will likely watch videos of how the training is done or read materials before actually doing the work so that you know what to expect.

When performing the training, firefighters will learn about how to safely put out a fire. You will learn about the proper practices as well as the procedures that are required by the fire department when putting out fires. The training is done in a controlled setting. This allows the supervisors to give instructions on how to enter a building and how to begin putting out the fire. It also gives you a chance to see what should be done in an emergency. You will also learn about how to work with the other firefighters so that your can be a team. There will usually be a certain number of trained fires that you will need to work before being put on the department to fight fires on a routine basis.

One of the things that is taught during fire training is how to think calmly. You don't want to get in a situation where you panic because there could be someone trapped in the building. You also need to think about your own safety when putting out a fire. The proper techniques of putting on fire equipment and taking breaks when they are needed are discussed during the training. You will also learn about how to operate heavy equipment while at the scene and how to properly handle the hoses.

The instructor and other leaders will ignite a building that has been purchased or taken under control by the fire department. Once the fire begins, you will begin putting on your gear after receiving the same kind of alarm that you would get if there were a true emergency call. When the training is over, each firefighter is examined to determine the skill level and any issues that need to be addressed.
